Prime Minister Boris Johnson will host a press conference from Downing Street this evening, with talk of new restrictions being imposed to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the United Kingdom.
It comes as Environment Secretary George Eustace told Sky News this morning that the government was considering a ‘full UK border closure’ following concerns over new variants in parts of the world.
Currently people arriving in the United Kingdom from abroad have to show proof of a negative COVID-19 test taken up to 72 hours before their journey.
There has also been speculation in the media that the government is considering paying individuals that have tested positive for COVID-19 a £500 payment to ensure that they self-isolate for the full ten day period after concerns that a large amount of people aren’t adhering to the rules.
