Prime Minister Boris Johnson is set to announce a delay to the easing of lockdown restrictions when he hosts a COVID-19 press conference from Downing Street at 6pm this evening.
The Prime Minister has come under increasing pressure over recent days due to the spread of the Delta variant across the United Kingdom, with over 90% of new cases in the UK now the variant first discovered in India.
Scientists have called for a delay, due to concerns that this particular variant could be up to 60% more transmissible and that it could be more resistant to the current vaccines available, particularly in those that have only as of yet received one dose.
The Prime Minister is expected however to offer some hope to the wedding industry, with the current limit of 30 guests at weddings expected to be raised somewhat, with rumours that the government could lift this to somewhere between 60-100 guests, depending on the size of the venue and ability to social distance.
