Hereford Cathedral is delighted to be able to re-introduce Tower Tours for the first time since 2019, after a two-year break due to Covid precautions.
Adventurous visitors can climb the tower’s 218 steps for some of the finest views of the city, Herefordshire and beyond. Tours include a visit to the Lantern Gallery, and the bell-ringing chamber, with a set of panoramic interpretation boards to help understand the views from the very top. Certificates are issued to all who manage the climb!
Climbing the Cathedral’s tower for some of the finest views of the city and surrounding countryside is one of its most popular visitor attractions, and tours run on Wednesdays and Saturdays from April to September. Please check the Cathedral website https://www.herefordcathedral.org/tower-tours for details and dates.
Tours cost £6 for adults, £5 for students and £3 for children under 16, and can be purchased on the day from the Cathedral Shop. Tours may not take place if the weather is poor, and may not be suitable for all visitors; children must be accompanied by an adult and we recommend that only children aged 8 or above attempt the climb.
Graham Bennett, head of the Tower Tour Guides, is delighted: “I find it a privilege and a pleasure to be a tower guide at Hereford Cathedral. It is a privilege to have access to some of the hidden recesses of the Cathedral, and a pleasure to show them to visitors. We get to see how parts of the Cathedral were built and, as well as the views from the top over the city and into four counties, we have stunning views of the interior of the Cathedral on our way up.”
