Residents of Eardisley have launched a fundraising campaign to save their village’s school crossing patrol, a service many describe as “vital” for the safety and wellbeing of local children and families.
A new GoFundMe campaign—set up with the support of Friends of Eardisley School—aims to secure the future of the crossing patrol as it is privately funded due to most councils no longer having available budgets to secure the position.
The campaign is in its second year after a very successful and widely supported fundraiser in 2024.
The crossing patrol is a reassuring presence on the busy road outside Eardisley School, ensuring children can cross safely during the school run. For many families, it’s more than just a safety measure—it’s part of the heart of the village.
“This service is hugely valuable to our community,” said Kelly Munford, (parent, resident and organiser of the campaign). “When we ran a survey earlier this year, so many people said they’d be willing to donate if needed. With the help of the Friends of Eardisley School, we’ve now got a way to make that happen.”
The fundraising appeal is calling on individuals, families, and local businesses to contribute what they can. The hope is that, with enough support, the crossing patrol can be maintained for the foreseeable future.
“Please spread the word,” said Kelly “If you work for a business that might be willing to help, it’s always worth asking. Every donation makes a difference.”
