Bethany Northwood – known as Raven within the 7th Hereford Beaver colony and Scouting family has been presented with a special award.
On Saturday 29th March Beaver colonies from South Marches District set sail from the Salvation Army Hall; for an afternoon of nautical fun, adventure and discovery.
Children aged 6 – 8 years old tried new activities and learnt new skills.
Some Beavers and leaders chose to get further into the spirit of things and wore fancy dress. Beth loves a fancy dress opportunity, you can see her here dressed as a pirate.

In true Scouting style the event drew to a close with a sing song but not before surprising Beth with a certificate and badge for The Chief Scout’s Commendation for Good Service.
This award is given each year to recognise quality adult service and to thank, acknowledge and celebrate outstanding members in Scouting.
Beth has been apart of the Scouting movement for over 10 years, volunteering in each section over a period.
As a Beaver leader Beth with other adult volunteers create fun and engaging activities that promote learning and development, while maintaining a safe and supportive environment.
Becci Forsyth also known as Rainbow said:
“Raven is a dedicated and passionate leader, she puts an abundance of time and effort into planning weekly meetings, trips and sleepovers.
“She is very knowledgeable about scouting and badges encouraging all Beavers to achieve.
“Raven has an assistant called Fox (Maxine Banks), together they are unstoppable! The Beavers share their ideas each term at a log chew, with this in mind Raven and Fox build inspirational plans. Give this pair a theme and their imagination has no limits.”
Beth also currently assists at the Leominster Explorer unit H-265. Some of this troop achieve Young Leader Awards with Beth’s mentoring. These 14-18 year olds help the leadership team at Beavers design and deliver the programme while developing life skills and playing an active part in the community.
Beth said:
“I did not expect this award at all. It’s fair to say I’m pretty chuffed with myself.”
Beth has two sons whom moved through Scouting from a very young age. Beth frequently describes all that scouting has provided for the boys, the fantastic opportunities and Beth is proud of their involvement and what they have achieved too.
