From the Herefordshire Wildlife Trust:

The winter work parties along the City Brooks restarted at the end of October.

City Branch members Anne Cottringer, Mo Burns and Nic Howes have been working with Project Officer Richard Fishbourne to clear an overgrown section of the Eign Brook that runs between the Rose Garden development and the Texaco filling station and Millers Court; other volunteers are set to join them during the winter.

Old air photographs show the Brook was much less vegetated in the 1960s than it is today. The Brook here has a gravel bed and when more light is admitted it will become more habitable for the invertebrates upon which a diverse wildlife food chain depends. During the clearance work a kingfisher flew up the line of the Brook.
