An 80-year-old woman from Hereford has received a degree in BA Hons (Open Arts and Humanities) despite losing her husband and receiving her own terminal diagnosis .
In a message sent to Your Herefordshire, Ann Gabb’s proud son Andrew said:
“I wondered if you would like to share how proud of my Mum I am?
“After losing my dad, Mum said she had always wanted to do a degree.
“I talked her into it. It was such a tough journey and I lost count of the times she wanted to give up but I kept pushing her.
“She had to stop for 18 months when she was terminally diagnosed. More recently, we had the heartache of losing my sister that will change our lives forever.
“However on Monday and after seven hard years, she finished her degree.
“Mum is 80 years old. Whatever happens, she reached for the stars and got there.”
Ann’s family now plan to make her graduation in October at the Symphony Hall a day to remember.
