Earlier this week, fire crews from Shropshire Fire and Rescue were called to a severe vehicle fire.

From Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service:

Whilst on route to the incident the crew could see a large column of black smoke rising from the reported location.

On arrival at the scene the crew found a small van which was fully involved in fire.

Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus quickly set about extinguishing the fire using two high pressure hose reel jets.

The radiated heat from the fire had caused some blistering and warping to external signs on a nearby building.

The external walls of the building were cooled and checked using a thermal imaging camera to ensure that there had been no fire spread.

The owners of the vehicle had been travelling home when they began to encounter a loss of power with the vehicle and smoke coming from the engine compartment.

They managed to safely leave the main road and pull onto the forecourt of the garage, where the vehicle bust into flames.

The owners of the vehicle and the garage bravely tried to tackle the fire using four fire extinguishers before the arrival of the fire and rescue service, however the fire became too intense for them to deal with.

We are pleased to report that there were no injuries at this incident, the cause of the fire is being treated as a mechanical defect.

Firefighters remained at the scene for approximately one hour damping down the vehicle and cooling the external walls of the garage.

The garage remains open for business, however customers may not be able to park immediately outside until the damaged vehicle has been recovered.

Pictures shared with the kind permission of both the vehicle involved and BJ’s garage.
