Members of the public are being urged to walk their dogs early in the morning, rather than during the day, with temperatures set to reach highs of 32c in Hereford today, and possibly up to 33c on Friday.
Powys County Council’s Highways team shared the following message on social media:
⚠️ 🌡 🐕 HOT PAVEMENT WARNING ⚠️ 🌡 🐕
In this sunny weather pavements can often be deceptively hot and will usually be much warmer than the air outside. Although dogs paws may seem tough, they can be easily burned by hot pavements.
Avoid walking on dark asphalt pavements in particular.
Walk early morning before the pavements get too hot.
Seek out natural shade and natural surfaces such as grass for a cooler walk.
