Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service have provided a detailed update on a fire in Hereford on Monday afternoon.

The incident occurred in the Rotherwas area of the city.

Smoke was seen rising from the fire from several miles away.

A spokesperson for Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service told Your Herefordshire:

“Three Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service crews – two from Hereford and one from Fownhope Fire Stations – plus the water carrier from Peterchurch were called at 14:55 on 2 June to smoke issuing at Rotherwas Industrial Estate.

“A fire in an open derelict building containing around 100 car tyres was well alight with the affected area around 10m by 30m.

“The fire was fought using two main jets and a hosereel jet augmented by a light portable pump set into the river as well as the water carrier.

“The surrounding area was dampened down. Cutting away into the roof space of the building also took place to check for fire spread.

“There were no casualties. Police also attended. The incident was marked as pending closure at 18:59.”
