A number of flood alerts are in place in Herefordshire following heavy rain overnight.
Heavy rain caused localised flooding across many routes overnight, with some minor issues with standing water.
The Environment Agency has issued a number of flood alerts on rivers in Herefordshire and the surrounding area.
From the Environment Agency:
The River Wye in Herefordshire
“River levels are rising at the Hay-On-Wye river gauge as a result of heavy rainfall.
“Consequently, flooding of roads and farmland is expected today, Sunday 17/03/24.
“We expect flooding to affect low lying land and roads along the River Wye from Hay on Wye to Ross on Wye.
“Other locations that may be affected include the A438, Byford, Bredwardine and Hereford.
“Predicted peaks:- Hay on Wye 2.0m – 2.1m this afternoon, Sunday 17/03/24.
“We expect river levels to remain high over the next few days. We are closely monitoring the situation.
“Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and avoid contact with flood water.
“This message will be updated by 5pm on 17/03/2024, or as the situation changes.”
River Frome in Herefordshire
“River levels are rising at the Bishops Frome river gauge as a result of heavy rainfall.
“Consequently, flooding of roads and farmland is expected this morning, Sunday 17 March.
“We expect flooding to affect low lying land and roads along the River Frome from Bromyard to Hereford.
“Other locations that may be affected include Bishops Frome and Yarkhill.
“We expect river levels to remain high over the next few days. We are closely monitoring the situation.
“Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and avoid contact with flood water.
“This message will be updated by 9am on 18/03/2024, or as the situation changes.”
River Leadon Catchment
“River levels are rising at the Bosbury river gauge as a result of heavy rainfall.
“Consequently, flooding is imminent. We expect flooding to affect low lying land and roads adjacent to the River Leadon.
“Locations that may be affected include Ledbury, Much Marcle, Staunton and Tibberton.
“Further rainfall is forecast over the next 48 hours.
“We are closely monitoring the situation. Our incident response staff are clearing weed screens.
“Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses.
“This message will be updated by 6pm on 17/03/2024, or as the situation changes.”
River Lugg – South of Leominster
“River levels are rising at the Lugwardine river gauge.
“Consequently, flooding of roads and farmland continues.
“We expect flooding to affect low lying land and roads adjacent to the River Lugg south of Leominster from Stoke Prior to Mordiford.
“Other locations that may be affected include Bodenham, Lugwardine and Hampton Bishop.
“We expect river levels to remain high for the next few days. We are closely monitoring the situation.
“Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded.
“This message will be updated by 9am on 18/03/24, or as the situation changes.”
