COVID-19 infection rates in Herefordshire are continuing to fall, despite an increase in recent days in cases being recorded in the United Kingdom.
The COVID-19 infection rate for the seven day period ending 8th October in Herefordshire was 455 cases per 100,000 population. This is down by 21.7% on the previous week.
The reduction is mainly down to a fall in the number of children testing positive for COVID-19. A number of schools brought back measures such as requiring students to wear masks in communal areas after an increase in cases in the county last month, which led to Kingstone High School closing for a week and a number of schools having a significant number of pupils absent.
The picture across the rest of the UK isn’t as bright, with 42,776 new cases of COVID-19 recorded yesterday. In the past seven days, a total of 273,510 cases have been recorded. This is an increase of 13.2% on the previous week. Hospitalisations are also on the increase, with 5,416 patients admitted to hospital in the past seven days, this is up by 6.8% on the previous week. There have been 788 deaths within 28 days of positive test in the past week, this is up by 2.3%.
