Many people in Hereford will have started to notice something different on their local bus stops recently.
Across many cities in Europe, bus stops have often had plants and flowers installed on the roof to welcome wildlife such as bees.
People in Hereford have started to notice these appearing on bus stops in the city, with the Yazor Road bus stop (pictured below) and Whitecross Road bus stops already attracting bees thanks to this wonderful initiative.
These bee sanctuaries or rather ‘bee stops’ are standard bus stops with grass and wildflowers planted on the roofs to encourage pollination and are much needed with so many species of bees facing extinction. Not only do bee stops support the city’s biodiversity by attracting honey bees and bumblebees, they also help capture fine dust and store rainwater.
