Several Covid19-related lockdowns didn’t stop local firms, Mundy’s Estate Planning & Probate Specialists and Harrison Clark Rickerbys (HCR) Solicitors, from raising over £1,500 for the Royal National College for the Blind.
They ran a successful, professional Will writing service last autumn, by offering virtual appointments where necessary, in return for voluntary donations to RNC. All the professionals involved kindly gave their time free of charge to support the RNC, with clients making donations in lieu of fees.
Senior Associate Solicitor Jane Erlam and paralegalLucy Willmett worked on the Wills scheme remotely for HCR, saying:
‘We were delighted to support RNC’s Will Writing Fortnight for the second year running and we found ways to adapt to the lockdown restrictions.’
Alan Hing from Mundy’s says:
‘For many people, knowing that they have attended to such an important personal matter, especially at this time, has given a sense of relief.’
A registered charity, RNC has been hard hit by unbudgeted costs and loss of income, resulting from the pandemic, costing £500,000 and rising. However, its teaching and support staff have worked tirelessly to maintain delivery of quality teaching remotely when necessary.
The students, all of whom are visually impaired, have each been issued with their own laptop including accessibility software, to use when not resident at the College and for remote learning in their halls during any periods of self isolation.
Full PPE and extra equipment has been made available on site to keep the teaching environment as safe as possible for all students and staff, along with wellbeing support throughout.
