The Environment Agency has upgraded it’s flood alert of the River Wye between Hay-on-Wye and Hereford to a flood warning, meaning that flooding is expected.
From Environment Agency:
Flooding is expected – immediate action required
River levels have risen at the Hay-On-Wye river gauge as a result of persistent heavy rainfall. Consequently, flooding of property, roads and farmland is expected from 09:00 Saturday morning, 20/02/21. We expect flooding to affect properties and roads in and around Hay and Hereford areas including the A438 between Letton and Willersley and Whitney on Wye. Predicted peaks:- Hay on Wye 3.2m to 3.7m Saturday afternoon, Bredwardine 5.4m to 5.9m Saturday evening. Further rainfall is forecast over the next 24 hours. We expect river levels to remain high until over the next few days. We are closely monitoring the situation. Our incident response staff are checking defences and liaising with emergency services. Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded. This message will be updated by 17:00 on 20/02/21, or as the situation changes.
