Birmingham is bracing for an announcement on new lockdown measures, as its number of infections continued to rise.
The most recent data for the seven days to 7th September showed Birmingham had the second highest rate of new cases in the country – at 85.4 per 100,000 people.
As reported by the Birmingham Mail, West Midlands Mayor Andy Street had pointed the finger at younger people, suggesting the growing rate of transmission was not restricted to them socialising in pubs, bars and restaurants but also in other people’s homes.
“Private settings are an important part of this,” he said.
“The younger population have got to take responsibility, think about their parents and grandparents.”
