Hereford River Carnival 2020 – A Blast From The Past

Here’s an update from The River Carnival team:

This year’s Carnival is going ahead but it will be a Carnival like nothing before.  A first in Hereford where we want you to stay at home and enjoy the fun.

The will be two parts to the 2020 Carnival:

First a virtual Carnival where everyone who normally comes along or takes part on the day can take part online

Second, a live, outdoors part where instead of you coming to us, we will bring the Carnival to your community.

In this way everyone can take part from their homes, in their gardens if they have them or on their street within their bubbles, with neighbours – or whatever the guidelines allow on the day.

More information will be revealed over the coming weeks and there will be a series of online workshops and fun sessions where people can discover how to make their own Carnival confectionary, lantern or poster.

We’re also looking at a special online Carnival dance, nature school, Carnival cocktail making, cookery, sporting challenges and loads more, even a virtual pet show – something for everyone we hope.

On the day

On the day, there will be a programme of events and ‘happenings’ running on our website on a special platform.  There will be a virtual Street procession and River Carnival and we’ll be asking people to send in their own videos and photos in advance to help us put this together for the day.

The live, outdoor element will take place on Saturday 5th September.

This Carnival cavalcade will travel around the city, so you don’t need to come to the Carnival.  We’ll bring it to your front door on the backs of special Blast from the Past trailers that will carry musicians and performers and some very special large Hereford Heads.
