In a end of season decider to stay in the Football League Hereford United faced Brighton in the final game of the campaign.
Hereford needed to win, Brighton needed to avoid defeat. Brighton had appointed ex Charlton manager Steve Gritt as their boss midway through the season and he had galvanised the Seagulls.
Hereford started the game like an express train and took the lead through an own goal by Kerry Mayo. Robbie Reinelt equalised for the visitors midway through the 2nd half. Hereford were relegated to the GM Vauxhall Conference.
