Talented athletes from Hereford and County Athletics Club have earned the prestigious opportunity to represent Herefordshire and Worcestershire at the ESAA National Cross Country Championship in West Sussex.
Tom Hawkyard, Isabel North, Henry Lewis and Saffi Reid have been selected for the Hereford and Worcester squad. Ruben Mathey and Inyan Farrant are reserves in the junior boys category.
This is an outstanding achievement as the Herefordshire and Worcestershire teams have only 8 athletes competing in each of the junior and intermediate male and female age categories.
The young athletes excelled in their individual School’s cross country trials and then at the subsequent District event that was held in November 2024, before qualifying based on their outstanding performances at the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Cross Country County Championships that took place in Bromsgrove on 21 January 2025.
The National Championship is the most eagerly anticipated event of the Winter for young athletes. Itbrings together top athletes in each of the 46 Counties in England to compete for the honour of being the best in the Country.
This year it will take place on Saturday 15th March at the Ardingly Showground in West Sussex.
Cross country by nature is a hard physical sport and the selected venue has extremely demanding courses which will test the athletes over mixed terrain.
The Greens have been training tremendously hard and credit is given to their dedicated coaches, Andy Tyler and Adam Dyson for preparing the athletes in readiness. Hereford and County Athletics Club wish the successful athletes the very best of luck for 15th March.
