The Cheltenham Festival have shared an important update, following heavier than expected rain overnight.

It means that areas of the Cross-Country course are currently waterlogged.

A spokesperson for The Cheltenham Festival said:

“After receiving 6mm of overnight rainfall, a significant deviation from the initially predicted 2mm-4mm, and with an additional 4mm-6mm expected today (Tuesday, March 12th), an inspection of the Cross-Country course is scheduled for 8am tomorrow (Wednesday, March 13th) due to waterlogging in certain areas.

“In the event that the course fails tomorrow’s inspection, we are collaborating with the BHA on a contingency plan to hold the Glenfarclas Cross-Country Chase on Friday, March 15th, which is Gold Cup Day.

“We will provide updates as decisions are made.

“The Old and New Course have handled the rain well, resulting in a Soft Going, with some areas Heavy.”
