Hereford United Supporters Trust members have voted against returning the clubs name to Hereford United, but just 183 members took part in the overall vote.

To vote, supporters had to be part of the Hereford United Supporters Trust and 75% of those voting would’ve had to back plans to revert the clubs name to Hereford United, for the idea to have been pursued by the Supporters Trust. Overall, just 74 (40.4%) of those who voted wished to change the name back to Hereford United, with 106 (59.6%) voting to keep the clubs name as Hereford FC.

The vote is in stark contrast to a post that Your Herefordshire shared just last month, with many indicating their support for the clubs name to be changed back to Hereford United.

The cost to change the clubs name was estimated at around £30,000, with some supporters saying that they’d rather see that money invested in the current playing squad.

HUST chairman Richard Tomkins has commented:

“On behalf of the HUST Board I would like to thank members for their participation in this process. Under the rules agreed at an earlier stage, the threshold has not been reached. Consequently, the HUST Board will not be taking the case to a full club shareholders’ meeting on this occasion.”

Could this vote present more of a reflection on the status of the Hereford United Supporters Trust as a voice of supporters, than a true reflection of the overall fanbase?
