Former Hereford United player Idris Niblett has recently celebrated his 90th birthday. Niblett was part of the team that faced Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Cup 3rd round on the 4th January 1958. A crowd of 18,144 packed into Edgar Street to watch the Southern League side face the then 1st Division giants. Hereford were defeated 3-0, but the game remains the biggest crowd that Edgar Street has held.
Niblett started his career at Cardiff City and signed for Hereford United in 1956 under the management of Joe Wade.
Niblett made 244 appearances for Hereford United from 1956-1962 and was part of the team that won the Southern League cup in 1959. He later played for Barry Town.
Niblett’s daughter Lynne told Your Herefordshire “Dad is back living in his hometown of Barry and currently watching Wales in Euro 2020 on the television”
Happy Birthday Idris from the team at Your Herefordshire and the Hereford United Facebook group.
