Westfields FC continued their strong start to the league season with a hard fought 1-0 victory over Longlevens on Wednesday evening.
Fields started the better side, creating a number of opportunities to score, before Sean Powell eventually gave the visitors the lead from close range. Westfields continued to push forward as the first half went on, with the Longlevens goalkeeper making several saves, including a stunning save from an effort from Josh Hunt.
As the game went on, the risk of Westfields conceding a late equaliser grew, with the home side pushing forward and Westfields unable to capitalise on space on the counter attack. The final whistle came as a relief for Westfields, but in truth it was one of those games that last season they may have gone on to draw or lose, so manager Phil Glover will no doubt be happy to see that his side can win the gritty games, ahead of an important double header this weekend. Westfields travel to Ludlow on Saturday, to face Shawbury in the FA Vase, before hosting local rivals Hereford Lads Club at allpay park in league action on Bank Holiday Monday.
