Former Hereford FC captain Joel Edwards has overcome injury and committed to Westfields FC for the forthcoming season.

A post on the Westfields Football Club Facebook page confirmed the news this morning:

“Joel Edwards is fit and committed to Westfields for season 22-23.

“After a possible football career ending ankle injury we are delighted to announce that after surgery last October Joel is fit and raring to go this coming season which is a huge boost to the club.

“Joel is probably the most well known player in the county having captained Hereford FC during the first few successful seasons then joining the Welsh Premier side Cardiff Met University team whilst studying for his degree. After completing his degree he returned to Fields only to suffer a bad ankle injury away at Lydney Town in 2020.

Manager Phil Glover said “it’s a huge boost to have Joel back available as his experience on the pitch and character off the pitch has been really missed.

“Our physio Joe Darley will help Joel manage his continued recovery between matches to make sure we look after him during the season.

“Recently Joel has kept himself fit by boxing for The City of Hereford Boxing Academy as it’s a different type of training. I suspect that will continue as it’s helped keep Joel fit whilst he hasn’t been able to play football.”
