Hereford Pegasus FC kicked-off their Midwest Counties Female Football League campaign this afternoon with an 8-1 victory over Inkberrow Eagles FC Girls and Ladies Teams at the KGD Stadium.

Despite the final result, the visitors from Worcestershire proved to be obdurate opponents at times, partcularly when they frustrated their hosts during the majority of the opening 45 minutes.

Despite Pegasus creating a number of good opportunities to score in the opening stages, it was the Eagles who opened the scoring after 19 minutes, as they broke past the home rearguard before a neat finish past goalkeeper Mel Mayo.

Sarah Bishop equalised on the half-hour when she drove into the penalty area before finding the corner of the net and then Molly Powis put Pegasus ahead in first-half stoppage time with a fine finish from the edge of the penalty area.

Last season’s leading scorer Roxy Dinescu increased the lead eight minutes after half-time with a trademark finish as she raced through on the Eagles’ goal.

Ellie Williams scored her first of the afternoon after being picked out by sarah Bishop in the 61st minute before Amy Reynolds headed home from a corner within 60 seconds of the restart.

Williams netted her second goal of the game in the 64th minute as Pegasus once again broke through the visitor’s back line before Livvie Jenkins picked out an unmarked Emily Morgan to tap home from close range with four minutes remaining on the clock.

The scoring was completed within a minute of the restart when the influential Jenkins found Dinescu in space to score her second goal of the afternoon.
