Westfields midfielder Harry Pitman has thanked his manager Phil Glover for showing trust in him in big games, with Westfields hoping to progress to the County Cup Final when they travel to local rivals Lads Club on Tuesday evening. The winners of the tie will face Hereford Pegasus in the final at Edgar Street.
Pitman, who signed for Westfields in the summer, has played 30 match so far this season, scoring six goals, meaning that he is Westfields six most used player appearance wise. Not bad for a player who only turned 18 earlier this year.
Pitman also knows how to put the ball in the back of the net, after scoring the opening goal in Westfields 6-0 hammering of local rivals Lads Club back in December.
In a Q&A session ahead of the County Cup Semi Final with Hereford Lads Club, Pitman gave credit to manager Phil Glover, as well as speaking about his hopes for the future and how his Dad is his footballing idol.
YH: You’ve settled into the Westfields starting line up really well this season after signing in the summer. Who has helped you the most since signing for Westfields?
HP: “For me, I feel like Phil Glover has really helped me since signing for Westfields. He has put his trust in me and given me opportunities to play in important games throughout the season.
“I also feel like the whole squad made it easy for me to settle in and made me feel comfortable which really helped too.”
YH: At a young age, Phil Glover has trusted you in the centre of the park against some strong sides in the league and cup. Has this helped your confidence?
HP: “Yes, massively. I feel like being trusted by the manager allows me to play with much more confidence and freedom.”
YH: You put in a fantastic performance in the league win at Lads Club over Christmas. Your opening goal was a cracker where you arrived late and slotted home. Is this your favourite goal for fields and are you hoping for similar on Tuesday?
HP: “The goal against Lads Club was one of my favourites as the fixture is one of the most significant games in the county. Scoring the goal in front of a large crowd made it even more special. I would love a repeat of that game this Tuesday when we play them again but we need to make sure that we all stick together and perform well as a team to ensure we can reach the final and try to finish the season on a high.”
YH: Which teammate would you say has had the best season this year so far?
HP: “Everyone has stood out at times but for me I feel like Steve Davies has had a huge impact on the team this season. He has been a great leader on the pitch and a big character in the changing room. He helps me a lot on the pitch with his communication and does really well every week.”
YH: If you could pick one teammate who could easily make it at a higher level, who would you choose?
HP: “I think Archie can definitely play at a higher level. He has great footwork and in front of goal he is so clinical.”
YH: What are your aims for the end of this season and next season?
HP: “My aims for the end of the season are to help the team to gain as many points as possible and show our full potential as a club. Another aim would be to win the County Cup as winning a trophy would be a perfect end to a good season. Next season, I hope to reach the play offs that are being put in and continue to work hard and enjoy playing.”
YH: Who is your footballing idol?
HP: “My footballing idol would be my Dad as he has inspired and motivated me and is always there supporting from the side. Seeing him play at a high level makes me want to work hard to match or exceed his achievements.”
