Former Hereford manager Josh Gowling has a new job after leaving former club Darlington just after Christmas.

He posted on social media saying he’s the new under-18s lead coach for Championship side Coventry City.

The start of another pre-season under my belt, but in a slightly different role.

“U18s lead coach in the city I grew up in, really excited about this one.”

The 40-year-old never played for his hometown club, but he told Matt Healey of Your Herefordshire back in November 2022 that his earliest football memory was watching Coventry City beating Tottenham in the 1987 FA Cup final -> Josh Gowling Interview ahead of Hereford FC v Portsmouth – FA Cup 1st round (youtube.com)

Gowling spent the majority of his playing career in Leagues One and Two at Kidderminster Harriers, AFC Bournemouth, Gillingham, Grimsby Town & Lincoln City.

He had a loan spell at Hereford United during the 2008/2009 season and returned in December 2018 when the club was now known as Hereford FC. He was appointed as caretaker manager in January 2020 after the dismissal of Russell Slade.

His tenure at Edgar Street ended by mutual consent after a disappointing run of results and 1-0 defeat to Farsley Celtic in February 2022
