Bromyard Town Football Club have issued a club statement following reports they played an ineligible player in the 2-1 victory over Wellington in the Herefordshire FA County Challenge Cup Quarter Final on Wednesday evening.
A statement from Bromyard Town Football Club said:
Bromyard Town Football Club would wish to make the following statement regarding our Herefordshire Football Association County Challenge Cup Quarter Final on Wednesday night vs Wellington Football Club.
We have been made aware of a protest from Wellington regarding the registration of one of our players.
They are claiming the player in question is ineligible due to being signed after the date of the original scheduled fixture; the date for this was close to 2 months ago and we have since had the tie postponed 3 times.
With this being the case we reached out to seek guidance from the Herefordshire Football Association prior to the new fixture date surrounding the availability of the player in question to prevent this exact situation from happening. This was due to the confusion around availability for multiple rescheduled cup games.
The response that we received via email from the Herefordshire Football Association confirmed that the player detailed in Wellington Football Clubs protest was eligible for the rescheduled fixture. This resulted in our Manager selecting the player for the game on Wednesday night, had we received communication declaring said player was ineligible we would have acted accordingly.
As mentioned earlier in our statement, we reached out to seek clarification on player registrations to prevent a situation like this from occurring. All evidence has been sent to the Herefordshire Football Association for a review and we will be informed of a decision on Monday.
We await confirmation that Tuesdays scheduled HFA County Challenge Cup Semi Final tie vs Westfield will go ahead as planned.
