Liam O’Hare started boxing when he was 16. Before this he was training to be a ballet dancer at the Birmingham Royal Ballet (Elmhurst).

“I found ballet wasn’t for me, but I still wanted to find a sport I could put my mind to and burn off some energy.

“I decided to give boxing a go and joined Lydney Amateur Boxing Club, I took to it straight away. Although seemingly opposite to ballet, I found many similarities in the need for timing and good footwork which helped me make it to the semi-finals of the junior national championships”.

As a Senior O’Hare continued competing in amateur boxing, despite having a few years out for personal reasons. Liam made it to the semi-finals of the U21 National Championships where he sadly lost to England boxer Lewis Richardson (Southpaw).

“This fight encouraged me to change my style completely which served me well further down the line. I went on to win against GB boxer Aaron Bowen on his home show among other top amateurs.”

“I have been lucky enough to move to Hereford to continue my journey in boxing, which has been the pathway for me to keep focused and motivated. Something which I struggled with growing up.

“I now train with The City of Hereford Boxing Academy and I look forward to beginning my pro journey with them and my trainer, Tony Chadwick.

“I really appreciate all the support the club and my sponsors have given me in and out of the ring, I’ll be putting the work in now ready for the 19th of December to ensure a spectacle for my pro debut in Birmingham and flying the flag for Hereford.”
