Herefordshire is set to start the New Year with a storm, with the Met Office issuing a weather warning for strong winds, heavy rain and some snow across the UK over the week ahead.

A Met Office warning for wind covers Herefordshire from 9am on New Year’s Day Wednesday) until 6am on Thursday 2nd January 2025.

The Met Office warning for Herefordshire says:

“A deep area of low pressure is expected to cross the UK from the west, bringing a spell of very strong winds. Gusts of 65-75 mph are likely around coasts and hills, especially in the south and west, with 50-60 mph gusts likely fairly widely inland.”

Also of note for Herefordshire, will be a heavy rain warning across mid Wales, which could impact on rivers across the county. 

The rain warning, in place on Wednesday from 9am on Wednesday, until 9pm on Wednesday (New Year’s Day), says:

“Heavy and persistent rainfall is expected in association with a low pressure system which tracks east across the UK on New Year’s Day. 

“20-40 mm is expected fairly widely, with 60-80 mm across hills.”

Monday:

A mostly dry albeit often cloudy day with occasional brighter spells and sunny intervals. 

Rather blustery winds, especially in the north of the region. 

Mild for late December. Maximum temperature 10 °C.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

Unsettled mid-week with heavy rain and strong winds at times and perhaps hill snow on Wednesday. 

Mild at first then turning much colder, but also drier and brighter, by Thursday.
