Intense thunderstorms hit parts of Herefordshire during the early hours of this morning.

There was a temporary power cut for many households in Hereford after lightning appeared to strike an object in the Ross Road area of the city. Nobody was reported to have been injured despite a loud bang.

In total over 40,000 lightning strikes hit the UK last night. Temperatures had reached over 32c in Hereford during the day and were still at the dizzy heights of 22c at midnight.
