Mountain biker suffers injury on Bwlch Mountain trail.

Police in Rhondda are appealing for information following an incident involving a mountain biker which occurred on Sunday (Dec 19) at around midday

.A 39 year-old man who was riding downhill the Bwlch Mountain trail, which runs into Ton Pentre, sustained a serious injury to his neck after cycling into barbed wire which was obscured by branches.

He required hospital treatment and is now recovering at home. An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is now underway.

Rhondda Deputy Local Policing Inspector Karl Emerson, said: “This was not initially reported to police but we became of aware of the concerning post on social media and made contact with the man involved.

“He was understandably traumatised by his experience and was very lucky not to have sustained even worse injuries.

“Our priority now is to identify the exact location of the incident to ensure there is no further risk to the public and establish how this came to happen.

“We have officers who are searching the trails in the area and urge anybody using them to be vigilant, to let us know if they come across anything suspicious, and to take extra care.”
