The footballing world is in shock this morning, following news that Liverpool FC and Portugal star Diogo Jota and his brother have died in a car crash.
A statement released by Liverpool FC said:
Liverpool Football Club are devastated by the tragic passing of Diogo Jota.
The club have been informed the 28-year-old has passed away following a road traffic accident in Spain along with his brother, Andre.
Liverpool FC will be making no further comment at this time and request the privacy of Diogo and Andre’s family, friends, teammates and club staff is respected as they try to come to terms with an unimaginable loss.
We will continue to provide them with our full support.
Liverpool FC striker Diogo Jota has died in a car crash in northwestern Spain, Portuguese media have reported.
Diogo Jota married his long-term girlfriend Rute Cardoso in June.

A Twitter (X) page named ‘We are Liverpool’ said:

The Anfield Beat said:
“It is with heartbreaking regret that we are writing this story.
“Diogo Jota is reported as having passed away from injuries sustained in a horrific car accident in Spain.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Liverpool Football Club, his many friends, his new Wife and his family members.”
Jota’s former club Porto have shared the following statement:
“Porto Football Club is in mourning.
“It is with shock and deep regret that we send our most sincere condolences to the family and friends of Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva, who was also our athlete in the youth categories.
“Rest in peace.”
Football legends such as Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville have also commented on the sad news.
