COVID-19 infection rates remain high in parts of South Wales, but Tier 4 restrictions appear to be having a significant impact with the vast majority of areas now reporting a significant fall in infection rates in comparison to at Christmas.

MERTHYR TYDFIL: 605 cases per 100,000 population in seven days up until 6th January. This is DOWN on the 1,029.4 cases per 100,000 population recorded in the seven days up until 23rd December.

MONMOUTHSHIRE: 318.2 cases per 100,000 population in seven days up until 29th December. This is DOWN on the 412.3 cases per 100,000 population recorded in the seven days up until 23rd December.

NEWPORT: 472.6 cases per 100,000 population in seven days up until 29th December. This is DOWN on the 679.5 cases per 100,000 population recorded in the seven days up until 23rd December.

CARDIFF: 370.7 cases per 100,000 population in seven days up until 29th December. This is DOWN on the 615.1 cases per 100,000 population recorded in the seven days up until 23rd December.

BRIDGEND: 695.7 cases per 100,000 population in seven days up until 29th December. This is DOWN on the 1,025.5 cases per 100,000 population recorded in the seven days up until 23rd December.

SWANSEA: 333.2 cases per 100,000 population in seven days up until 29th December. This is DOWN on the 574.9 cases per 100,000 population recorded in the seven days up until 23rd December.

NEATH PORT TALBOT: 401.9 cases per 100,000 population in seven days up until 29th December. This is DOWN on the 804.5 cases per 100,000 population recorded in the seven days up until 23rd December.

BLAENAU GWENT: 478.1 cases per 100,000 population in seven days up until 29th December. This is DOWN on the 815.9 cases per 100,000 population recorded in the seven days up until 23rd December.
