During the COVID-19 pandemic, the vast majority of the public have come together and supported their local community in many ways, however, some of those amongst us still wish to make things difficult for others.
Supermarket workers, NHS workers, police officers and other key workers have all faced difficult times as a result of the pandemic and the last thing any of them need is to face verbal, physical or mental abuse.
We shared a video yesterday of a police officer in Hereford, who was recorded on video politely asking a member of the public to provide his details after he was abusive to staff in Tesco in Bewell Street in Hereford. The man failed to provide his details and was subsequently arrested. The vast majority of people have supported and praised the actions and professionalism of the officer, despite what could be seen as quite provocative behaviour by the member of public.

Today, we’ve seen a post on the Voice of Ledbury Facebook Group that has created a discussion. A member of staff is reported to have politely asked a member of the public to wear a mask or leave the store, which is currently the guidelines that Tesco is operating with. Whether the man had a reason to be exempt from wearing a face mask is unknown, but what concerned those in the store at the time, was the manner in which the man is reported to have physically manhandled and verbally abused the key worker.
The pandemic is tough for us all, but by being kind and respecting those that still have to go to work, it will help to make it that little bit easier for us all.
Stay safe.
