A woman has suffered serious injuries after falling into a river in Herefordshire.

West Mercia Police, West Midlands Ambulance Service and Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service all attended the incident in Ewyas Harold yesterday evening.

A spokesperson for Ewyas Harold Fire Station said:

“Our crew was called tonight to reports of a person in the river adjacent to the post office in the village.

“On arrival we located an elderly lady who had fallen down the banking into the river. She was being supported by two people who had stopped to help.

“Supported by our water rescue colleagues from Hereford and Ross-on-wye we extracted her using the rescue sleigh and handed her over to the ambulance service.

“The lady had suffered a very severe injury to her leg and potential spinal injuries.

“Special thanks to the two members of the public who were with her throughout the time helping support her.”
