Westfields Football Club have been forced to postpone their home fixture against Brimscombe & Thrupp FC, due to flooding at their Allpay Park pitch.

It’s not the first time that Allpay Park has flooded and no doubt won’t be the last, but this time the flooding was relatively sudden, with downpours on Wednesday causing the nearby brook to rise quickly, leaving around a metre of water on the pitch in places.

Getting the match on this Saturday was a task that was even a stretch too far for award winning Groundsman Joe Mecke-Davis.

How the pitch at Westfields FC normally looks:

Joe likes a challenge, and is well known on social media for his fantastic playing surface and pitch patterns, but it was an impossible task to get the game played, with deep water still across the whole pitch today (Friday).

With support from the Hellenic League, Westfields were able to give their visitors Brimscombe & Thrupp plenty of notice of the postponement.

Westfields beat Brimscombe & Thrupp 11-0 just a few weeks ago.

It’s not all bad news though. Liverpool FC legend Legend Alan Kennedy is visiting the club for a fundraising evening tomorrow night. The clubhouse avoided the flooding so this event will go ahead as planned.

Westfields will be hoping for some dry weather, with their next scheduled fixture against Mangotsfield United at Allpay Park on Saturday 26th October.

Elsewhere, Hereford Rugby Club and Leominster Town Football Club have also been affected by flooding.
