Visiting restrictions still remain in place at hospitals in Herefordshire, with four areas of Hereford still recording ‘very high’ COVID-19 infection rates according to latest data.
Wye Valley NHS Trust provided Your Herefordshire with an update on visiting restrictions at hospitals in the county yesterday. The update is as follows:
Visiting at Wye Valley NHS Trust and it’s hospitals/wards, including Hereford County Hospital, Ross, Leominster and Bromyard Community Hospitals, continues to be suspended due to the number of Covid-19 cases in the community.
The following exceptions to the above restrictions have been updated today, 3 February, as follows:
- Compassionate grounds – visiting must be agreed with the nurse in charge of the ward. Visitors will be allowed on wards if:
- The patient is receiving end of life care
- The patient is in receipt of bad news
- The patient faces a life-changing illness or injury
- The patient needs specific support and will benefit from a visitor
- Children’s ward, SCBU and Maternity – visiting is not suspended on these wards – current visiting restrictions remain in place find out more before attending. Please see the table at the bottom of this website page for more information.
- Out-patients can only be accompanied if – the patient is vulnerable and needs support and/or the patient is to receive bad news. Any visits must be arranged and agreed by the Nurse in charge. See further information re outpatient appointments.
- Please note – If you are a full-time carer of an inpatient, time will be given to you to ensure vital information is shared to facilitate person centred care recognising you may not be able to stay with your relative due to restricted visiting. Please speak to the nurse in charge.
The restrictions remain in place due to a high level of COVID-19 cases in the wider community. In Hereford, four areas of the city are recording ‘very high’ rates of infection. Those areas are as follows:
HEREFORD SOUTH WEST: 165 new cases of COVID-19 in the seven day period ending 29th January. An increase of 10.7% on the previous seven day period, giving a COVID-19 infection rate of 1,994 cases per 100,000 population.
HEREFORD CENTRAL: 169 new cases of COVID-19 in the seven day period ending 29th January. A decrease of 4% on the previous seven day period, giving a COVID-19 infection rate of 1,666 cases per 100,000 population.
HEREFORD NORTH EAST: 137 new cases of COVID-19 in the seven day period ending 29th January. An increase of 35.6% on the previous seven day period, giving a COVID-19 infection rate of 1,729 cases per 100,000 population.
HEREFORD WEST: 117 new cases of COVID-19 in the seven day period ending 29th January. An increase of 34.5% on the previous seven day period, giving a COVID-19 infection rate of 1,619 cases per 100,000 population.

Overall in Herefordshire, COVID-19 infection rates remain high, with a total of 2,520 new cases of COVID-19 recorded in the seven day period ending 29th January. This is an increase of 15.5% on the previous seven day period, giving a COVID-19 infection rate of 1,302 cases per 100,000 population.
