Residents in a Herefordshire village have been left frustrated after it was revealed that its local pub would be put up for sale with immediate effect.

The update on the Bateman Arms pub in Shobdon was shared on local community page Shobdon Village on Thursday evening.

The update said:

“Mike regrets to inform the village that the decision has been made by the owners of the Bateman Arms, to put it up for sale with immediate effect.

“The owners do not feel it is not in their current or future plans to reopen the business and wish to sell the pub as is as soon as possible, allowing future owners to complete the refurbishments as they see fit.

“Mike and Max share the villages disappointment at this sudden decision and want to wish the future owners well.”

Many villagers commented on the news, with many sharing their frustration that it could be a while until they see their local reopen, but many residents did wish the current owners well, pointing to the fact that running a business like a pub in the present financial climate is very difficult.
