Latest data released by Public Health England shows that COVID-19 infection rates in Herefordshire are rapidly rising, with much of the county now recording very high rates of infection.
In the seven day period ending on 28th December 2021, a total of 1,730 cases of COVID-19 were recorded in Herefordshire. This is by far the highest number of cases recorded within a seven day period since the start of the pandemic in the county. This was a 81.7% increase on the previous seven day period and gave a COVID-19 infection rate of 893.5 cases per 100,000 population in Herefordshire. With a five day lag in data and a significant increase in cases being recorded since the 28th December, the COVID-19 infection rate in Herefordshire is likely to rise further as we head into this week.
The whole of the city of Hereford is now recording ‘very high’ rates of infection (A very high rate of infection is above 800 cases per 100,000 population).
The Hereford West area, which includes Westfaling Street and some areas of Whitecross, is currently recording the highest COVID-19 infection rate in Herefordshire, with a total of 108 cases recorded in the seven day period ending 28th December 2021. This gave a COVID-19 infection rate of 1,494.4 cases per 100,000 population.
