The United Kingdom has recorded over 1,000 new cases of Coronavirus for the fifth consecutive day, as parts of Europe start to lockdown again following a spike in cases on the continent.

According to the latest figures from the government, there were 1,012 new cases on Saturday.

It’s down from Friday’s figure of 1,441, which was the highest daily rise for two months, but marks the fifth day in a row that more than 1,000 new cases have been recorded.

Overall, a total of 317,379 cases have been confirmed.

France reported 3,310 new infections on Saturday over the past 24 hours and Germany recorded 1,415 new infections on Saturday – the biggest increase since late April.
