St Michael’s Hospice has shared the exciting new look that two of their shops have received as the charity bids to offer its supporters even greater value for money.

Hereford’s Folly Lane shop, and the Gloucester Road site in Ross-on-Wye, have been transformed by the charity to become Pound Shops, with all items £1 or less.

St Michael’s says the change has been prompted by the success of its existing pound shops in Eign Gate in Hereford, and Victoria Street in Leominster, and the charity’s commitment to keeping clothing and other donated items out of landfill.

With living costs continuing to rise, the charity is confident an expansion of the Pound Shop model will be a success.

Lesley Wilkinson, Head of Retail at St Michael’s Hospice, said, “We have enjoyed great success with the pound shop model in both Hereford and Leominster, and are pleased to be able to bring these two shops under the same strategy.

“This change also provides a solution to a challenge many charity retailers are facing as a result of the collapse of the re-cycled textile market. St Michael’s Hospice are committed to keeping as much textile out of landfill as possible, and by expanding our Pound Shop offering, we can provide value to our customers and keep great items in circulation.”

These shops are now open and ready to welcome shoppers, offering a selection of pre-loved clothing, books, children’s toys, homeware and more at bargain prices.

At the reopening of the Gloucester Road shop in Ross-on-Wye, one shopper commented, “The shop is fabulous! I’ve found really great names for a pound a piece, so I’ll be in here all the time. I think I’ve got about 35 to 40 items in the first hit!”
