Hospital midwives had the best start to the New Year with the arrival of the first babies to be born at Hereford County Hospital in 2022 – but they had to wait 24 hours as, unusually, none were born on January 1.
Instead, the first baby to arrive this year at the hospital was a baby girl born at 6.13am on Sunday, January 2.
Abbi Maddox, interim lead midwife at Wye Valley NHS Trust, said: “It’s a fantastic start to the New Year to welcome the first babies born at Hereford County Hospital this year, even though we had to wait a day for their arrival.
“To be part of bringing a new life into the world is a privilege and our midwives with the proud parents were delighted to mark the arrival of the first babies born this year – we had a total of three girls and a boy delivered safely on January 2.
“Every baby is a blessing and babies born at this time of the year have very special birthdays. It was lovely to present the family with their special bauble and festive hat.”
“Our community midwifery and health visiting teams continue to provide specialist support to parents and their baby when they return home, including help and advice on infant feeding and caring for your baby.”
