There will be no Hereford Scout Post service this Christmas, following a fall in the number of volunteers available to help run it.

A post on the Hereford City Scouts Christmas Post page on Facebook said:

“We are sad to announce that Hereford District Scout Post service will not be available this year (2024).

“Everyone will appreciate that it is a service run by volunteers for the benefit of the public and the young people of the Scout Groups that take part.

“Over the years that the service has been running (since 1982) well over a million cards have been handled.

“To successfully manage this activity it takes a lot of man hours by an army of volunteers.

“Unfortunately, this year we are unable to guarantee a reliable service because of a reduction in volunteers.

“We would like to thank everyone who as supported Scout Post over the years it really was appreciated.

“From all at Scout Post.”
