Latest data released by Public Health England has shown that there has been a spike in the number of cases of COVID-19 being recorded in the Credenhill, Weobley & Wellington area of Herefordshire.

Data for the seven day period ending 8th December shows that a total of 79 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded in the Credenhill, Weobley & Wellington area. This is an increase of 155% on the previous seven day period and means that the area is now recording the highest COVID-19 infection rate (817.4 cases per 100,000 population) in the county.

The news comes as the United Kingdom recorded its first death from the Omicron variant.

On 13 December, 54,661 new cases and 38 deaths within 28 days of a positive test were reported across the UK.

1576 additional confirmed cases of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 have been reported across the UK. The total number of confirmed COVID-19 Omicron cases in the UK is 4713.
