Tens of thousands of people across the United Kingdom will be switching their electricity off for ten minutes on Saturday evening, as a protest against rising energy costs.

The #BigPowerOff will take place at 7pm, with those taking part asked to switch all electrical appliances off for ten minutes.

The first Big Power Off event took place on Sunday 10th April, with thousands taking part, but this weekends is expected to be even bigger.

The aim is to show the Government and energy companies that members of the public simply won’t stay silent as prices rise, say organisers.

The ten minute blackout will be followed by a huge surge on the national grid organisers have said, but the National Grid have said that the last protest had no effect and that they expect no major issues going forward if the protest attracts a wider audience.
