Significant flooding is possible in some parts of England and Wales as heavy rain and strong winds cross the United Kingdom as we end the week.
The Met Office has issued an amber warning for parts of South Wales with up to 100mm of rain possible in some localised spots over the next 48 hours. With rivers already high and ground saturated in parts of Wales and the Midlands, there are concerns that flooding could become an issue as we head towards the weekend.
The Flood Information Service says:
“Flooding from surface water and rivers is probable in the south of Wales and possible more widely across Wales, central west England and south-west England on Friday and Saturday. The surface water flood risk reduces into Saturday. Significant river flooding impacts are also possible but not expected on slower responding rivers in central west England on Sunday and Monday following Friday’s rain. Local flooding from surface water and rivers is also possible but not expected on Monday in parts of south Wales and the south of England. Properties could flood and there could be travel disruption.”
