Services at Hereford County Hospital are under severe pressure following an extremely challenging bank holiday weekend.
From Wye Valley NHS Trust:
“Services at Hereford County Hospital are under severe pressure following an extremely challenging bank holiday weekend.
“Long waits in ED are not what we want for our patients and our hard-working staff are doing all they can to provide safe and efficient care.
“Our priority remains to provide safe services and we are working with health and care colleagues and partners across the county to treat patients safely and efficiently.
“While we continue to treat patients who are seriously sick in the Emergency Department, we advise those with non-serious conditions to ring NHS 111/visit NHS111 online or seek advice from their local pharmacy – otherwise they could face long waits in ED while we treat more sick patients.
“We appreciate that some patients may want support, but with ED currently so busy, we are asking that patients bring the minimum number of escorts/carers to help reduce congestion in the department.
“Our hard working staff are doing all they can to care for patients in a safe and timely manner and we are doing all we can to reduce waiting times.
“Patients with routine out-patient appointments should turn up as normal unless they are contacted and told otherwise.”
