Ross-on-Wye Town Council held a Beacon Lighting on Thursday 8th May to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of Victory in Europe in 1945.

The event commenced at 7pm at The Prospect with live music by The Jazz Friday Big Band where the crowd joined in with jive dancing from Jive by the Wye.

Traditional fish and chips were served by Simpsons and a fantastic 1944 GPW Jeep was on display which was supplied by Jeremy Tobin.

The event was attended by His Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of Herefordshire, Mr Edward Harley CBE and Mrs Harley, The High Sheriff, Helen Bowden and Mr. Bowden and His Majesty’s Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Herefordshire, Mr. Nathaniel Hone and Mrs. Hone.

The Piper, Simon Addison, played Celebratum followed by the Town Crier, Ray Churchill, who read out the ‘Proclamation’. The Mayor, Councillor Bev Pope, made a short speech before the lighting of the Beacon by the Lord Lieutenant at 9.30pm.
