The River Wye is set to peak at a level slightly higher than was originally predicted in Hereford this evening.

Riverside paths are likely to flood from 5pm onwards and the Bishops Meadows could flood for a short time.

From the Environment Agency:

“River levels have risen at the Hay-On-Wye river gauge as a result of persistent heavy rainfall. Consequently, flooding is occurring. We expect flooding to affect low lying land and roads along the River Wye from Hay on Wye to Ross on Wye. Other locations that may be affected include the A438, Byford, Bredwardine and Hereford. Predicted peaks:- Hay on Wye 2.2m to 2.4m this afternoon, Bredwardine 4.2m to 4.4m this afternoon, Belmont 4.3m to 4.5m this evening, Old Wye Bridge 3.9m to 4.2m this evening, Mordiford 3.8m to 4.2m over night, Ross on Wye 3.0m to 3.5m Tomorrow 30/10 We expect river levels to remain high over the weekend with further rainfall expected. We are closely monitoring the situation. Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and avoid contact with flood water. This message will be updated this evening, 29/10/2021 by 19:00, or as the situation changes.”
